Title: Blue moth no.6

Medium: Acrylic and glass on linen

Dimentions: 110 x 70 cm

Year of Creation: 2024

Series Blue Moths, rendered in deep ultramarine blue, features moths as symbols of transformation and the link between past and present. These often overlooked creatures have been a recurring motif in Alanko’s practice, appearing both in her paintings and, for the first time, as realistic ceramic sculptures. The moths evoke a sense of quiet persistence, representing the cyclical nature of life and memory.

Alanko’s large-scale paintings on raw linen include her signature symbolic forms that grow beyond the canvas, creating a sense of ambiguity. These forms act as visual markers, offering the viewer a map of the emotional terrain the work explores. Through a striking combination of brushstrokes and sculptural elements, Alanko makes the invisible tangible, materializing ethereal figures that evoke both fragility and strength.
