I painted this work while being impressed by the color of the brick dust that I saw when visiting the Roland Garros tennis courts in Paris. Some feeling accompanied me: how much stress hundreds of tennis players who fought here for every ball must have endured. Pop, bounce, gently a puff of dust stirred up, rising when the ball meets the court. Color, light, the air of freshly baked brick. I couldn’t bear this all-encompassing beauty.
Hence this painting was born.
